Well, Big Brother NBA can get off my back now.
On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Bucks, along with the Suns and Trailblazers, decided to execute a blockbuster trade to send Damien Lillard to the Cream City, after 12 years with Portland's NBA team. The Blazers get DeAndre Ayton, Jrue Holiday, Toumani Camara, a first-round pick and a pick swap, while Phoenix gets Jusef Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Keon Johnson and Nassir Little. Here is what the trade does for each team.
PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS
It was set in stone since the beginning of the off-season, Portland was going to rebuild. The problem was that they had a franchise player who was in his mid-30's and wanted to have a championship run. He wasn't going to do it in Portland. The team gets a player who is looking for a bounce back season in Ayton. Holiday is probably headed elsewhere and Camara could be a contributor off the bench. It also clears the way for the Blazers rebuild since they drafted Lillard's heir apparent, Scoot Henderson.
PHOENIX SUNS
DeAndre Ayton became a pariah in the Valley of the Sun. He was booed by the home crowd and ridiculed by the local media. His contract was also a handcuff on the Suns since they traded for another big contract in Bradley Beal. This trade gives Phoenix flexibility and depth. Nurkic is a better defender, and he has a cheaper contract. The other three provide depth, which they desperately needed. It will be interesting to see how the Suns can operate the rotation since they are deep with contributors.
MILWAUKEE BUCKS
There have been reports that Giannis wasn't a happy camper after the Bucks historical elimination. He did this a few years back and Milwaukee traded for Jrue Holiday. This acquisition led them to a title. Now, they are trading Holiday for a better offensive player in Lillard. It's time to have hope that lightning will strike again since Lillard wants a championship and Giannis wants to continue dominating the association with another title.
With the season kicking off in a few weeks, the first big trade has a lot of people talking.
