Have you seen an entire football community gasp in unison? It probably has happened many times before, but this one was epic. The hype around the New York Jets was something they haven't seen since Sanchise, Rex Ryan and the go-for-the-throat teams of the early 2010's. They finally had an elite quarterback under center to lead them to the promised land. They are drafting well: Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson III and Sauce Gardner. Head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas are driving them in the right direction. They went for the jugular to get Aaron Rodgers. The sky is the limit for the Jets.
Four plays into the season opener, Aaron Rodgers sat on the MetLife turf with a now-confirmed torn Achilles tendon and the sky could be falling.
Throughout all this, New York pulled out a walk-off win over the Buffalo Bills in overtime. This was a temporary ray of light since everyone would be waiting for the injury Rodgers sustained that caused him to take a ride on a cart. Now, that is definitely a torn Achilles tendon, his season is done and at 39, his career is probably finished too. The franchise wanted to break out of the doldrums and make some noise by acquiring him. Aaron was willing to go there. It took a while, but the deal was made. There were concerns about him regressing due to age, but a regressing Aaron Rodgers is better than most of the quarterbacks in the league. This loss could put a wrench into the season's plans.
Now it's up to Zach Wilson, the embattled former #2 overall pick. Last season, every football "expert" and fan lambasted him for his poor performance and compared Wilson to Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer or Mitchell Trubisky. He was reported to have a cavalier-type attitude in the locker room. Zach was quoted saying this to the media after speculation that the Jets were searching for a veteran quarterback for next season, "I'm going to make that dude's life hell in practice every day." Despite several people calling for Tom Brady to come back or Kaep calling them, Saleh has stated that Wilson is his guy and he needs that 🔥 from that quote to produce on the field.
The Jets could still make the playoffs with their young talent, but it's going to be an uphill battle.
