How Robert Sarver Became Public Enemy #1 In Phoenix (In My Opinion Of Course)

(This is an editorial based on options of the writer and not the Real Sports Marks or any of our contributors......but let's be honest, they probably feel the same way I do.)

So as I got off of work, I decided to check updates on sports with my trusty phone and saw one about the Phoenix City Council postponing a vote on renovation of Talking Stick Resort Arena until Jan. 23 so residents can attend meetings before the date. I figured "OK". I mean TSRA does need a renovation since it is 26 years old and is one of the oldest arenas in the NBA. Wrap your head around that thought. So maybe in a month, everyone will be on the same page and a deal would be struck so everything will be smooth. I continued to scroll the page and saw another report about this issue and guess who decided to stick his face into this? Good ol' Robert Sarver! The man reportedly said that if the City Council doesn't vote for the renovation, he has threatened to move the team to Las Vegas or Seattle.

This is when I thought to end this article since it just answered the question of the title.................BUT!

I want to put this in a simple perspective. If Sarver moves the team, then quite frankly, Vegas or Seattle would be desperate to watch this product. This man purchased a well-run, respectable NBA franchise only to see it turn into a laughingstock and a joke. You can hear people saying "Remember the time the Suns traded Rajon Rondo for cash?" And be lucky that fans show up to the games. What was once a premier destination for free agents has turned into a toxic albatross. Hell, his own players wanted the next plane out of Sky Harbor Airport. Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, and the Morris Twins were some of a few players who publicly wanted to leave the Suns, even though Bledsoe denied he wanted to leave and the Morris twins were reportedly cancerous in the locker room, so a lot of people were glad they were gone.

This season alone already has a laundry list of moments that would make a Suns fan weep. The franchise fired GM Ryan McDonough nine days before the season started, their star players (Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton) are reportedly not getting along, one rookie (Mikal Bridges) got into an argument with his coach, the current GM (James Jones) likes to send players to the Lakers, which coincidently where his buddy, LeBron James, plays. The legendary radio voice of the Suns, Al McCoy deserves better than this. Last week, I listened to the Suns/Kings game and there were times that McCoy was embarrassed to even broadcast the score of the game (At one point, it was 46-13). And to top it off, they are the worst team in the NBA, by a mile.

As an AzCentral article deemed that Robert Sarver's dilemma is that he is not Jerry Colangelo. NO....FREAKING....KIDDING! As much as a lot of Suns fans fawn over Colangelo, Sarver does not get that same treatment. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. Colangelo would stick his neck out for the franchise to make the team contenders and would connect with the community to bring goodwill between the City of Phoenix and the Suns organization. Sarver doesn't really connect with anyone, to be honest. He seems distant when it comes to representing the Suns brand. He has become a sore point for Suns fans to talk about. As a matter of fact, there are billboards popping up around town with the hashtag #SARVEROUT, stating that fans want Sarver to sell the team or just go away altogether.

So as I enclose this diatribe, I would say this phase, but I really didn't think it was just him. Then I realized how this franchise has turned into, it really is Robert Sarver's fault.
