I was going to skip this, but this was too juicy to just skip over. That being said, what I'm about to say is not gloating, it's an omen for things to change.
Jake Paul got what he deserved when he lost to Anthony Joshua.
Now, people like Dave Portnoy are calling everyone "haters" for this defeat when Jake Paul created this himself. Sure, people will point out that he's made a lot of money and the "haters" are jealous. There will be a time when the amount of money will not be enough. The notoriety will linger on until something changes.
If there was anything positive from this bout, Jake Paul faced a legitimate boxer and lasted six rounds. This actually could help build confidence into him and help shape him to become a more well-rounded boxer. Just be humble and move on to the next one.
Unfortunately, Jake and his squad didn't get that memo and has resorted to what a lot of sports "experts" are doing recently, making excuses. From the "not following the script" excuse or the "I didn't knock him out because people would think that it would be racist" excuse, no humility or accountability were shown. Jake's older brother, Logan, has vowed to exact revenge on Joshua. I also found out that Logan is older than Jake during this time.
Let's not beat around the bush, Jake Paul is doing this to Jake Paul. How do you expect everyone to take seriously as a professional boxer when you don't take yourself seriously? Threatening legal action to people who say his bouts are rigged makes him seem like a martyr. Despite the large number of fans watching the fights on Netflix, that notion of Jake Paul as a novelty fighter will always hang over his head until he wants to get serious.
Right now, he will recover from surgery to repair a broken jaw and has stated that he wants to continue boxing despite Joe Rogan, of all people, warning him about the consequences of head trauma. If he wants to continue boxing, then do the right thing and start from the bottom while you work your way to the top.
Until then, the novelty act has gotten old.
